Mastering Email Campaigns: A Step-by-Step Guide to Using Smart Lead

So, you've enriched all your data, created personalized content, and gathered all your prospects' emails or LinkedIn profiles. Now, it's time to send all this data to a sequencing tool to actually send out your messages. How do we accomplish this? Fortunately, Clay offers integrations with many popular email sequencing tools, like Smart Lead, which is what we'll use in this tutorial.

Why Choose Smart Lead?

Smart Lead is a fantastic email sequencing tool for several reasons. First, it allows you to track all your campaign results. The Plant Store's campaign results, for example, are displayed right here. It categorizes responses, including positive replies, and organizes them in a Master Inbox, which consolidates all campaign responses in one unified place.

Additionally, you can manage multiple email accounts through Smart Lead. It's crucial to set up separate sending accounts from your main one when using outbound email campaigns to avoid getting blacklisted. You can also manage all your leads efficiently within the platform.

Setting Up a Campaign

Creating a campaign in Smart Lead is straightforward. Here's what you need to do:

  • Create a campaign.

  • Import your leads.

  • Create your sequence.

  • Set up the settings.

  • Review the campaign.

For instance, in the settings of the campaign built for The Plant Store, the sequence is already set up. Each personalization variable is enclosed in brackets, clearly defined, and ready to go.

Sending Data to Smart Lead

To fulfill these personalizations, go back to Clay and use the Smart Lead integration. Here's how:

  • Navigate to "Add Enrichment" and select "Smart Lead."

  • Choose "Add Lead to Campaign."

  • Map out all the different variables easily: email address, first name, last name, company name, and custom fields.

It's essential to ensure that custom fields in Clay match exactly with those in Smart Lead. For instance, "Mission (1)" in your first email should be the same in both platforms. Once mapped, click save, and the lead will route directly to your campaign.

Reviewing and Running Your Campaign

After mapping, go into your campaign and preview it in the final review section. Your email will display personalized elements like:

  • "Congrats on the recent round to Sarah..."

  • "Maybe you can give employees a pathos marble Queen..."

  • Offer details like a free plant consultation.

Review each element to ensure everything works correctly. You can fill the entire campaign module with leads from your Clay table. Once satisfied, click "Run," and everything syncs perfectly with Smart Lead. Finally, resume your campaign, and you're actively sending out emails. It's really that simple!
