This AI Sales Trick Will 10x Your Outbound Sales Efficiency

Hey folks, Patrick here. Today, I want to walk you through a start-to-finish process on how to aggregate a list of names from a website directory, import them into Clay, enrich them, and send out a personalized email campaign. This method has been instrumental in landing agency clients for me, and I'm excited to share it with you!

Scraping and Importing Contacts

Let's kick things off with sourcing clients from the Y Combinator website. These companies have recently secured funding, making them ideal prospects. To scrape the list, I used the Clay Chrome extension, which is available on the Chrome Web Store. We have a pre-scraped aggregator for YC companies, making the process super smooth. As you scroll through the rows, the list automatically updates, and you can export it to a Clay table.

Working in the Clay Table

In the Clay table, I started with a batch of companies, narrowing it down to validate emails and reach out to valid contacts. Unfortunately, the YC website doesn’t allow scraping of company page links directly, but I got around this by using a formula column in Clay. By merging the base URL with company names, I generated links to each company page.

Extracting Key Information

Once on a company's YC page, there's a wealth of information available, including domains, team sizes, and founder details. This is crucial for personalizing outreach. I created a scrape structure using the Clay extension to extract all this data efficiently. This template can then be applied to all companies, pulling in necessary details like founder names, social profiles, and company descriptions.

Finding and Validating Emails

Next, I focused on finding the founders’ emails. Clay offers several integrations for this, but I prefer the in-house Clay integration for its accuracy. By providing the founder's name and company domain, I could generate a list of emails. To ensure deliverability, I used the Hunter validate email integration to confirm valid inboxes, preventing potential blacklisting issues.

Personalizing Email Campaigns

Personalization is key. I wanted each email to feel personal and researched. Using OpenAI integration in Clay, I generated personalized snippets about what each company excels at, based on their descriptions. This made my emails stand out as genuinely tailored.

Results and Reflections

This approach landed me a couple of clients, with one referring another. It illustrates the power of personalization in email marketing. By focusing on quality over quantity, I achieved significant results with minimal resources. Personalizing outbound at scale with Clay can consolidate efforts, reduce costs, and enhance effectiveness.
